Grooming your Salzuflen cocker spaniel
Your new Cocker Spaniel will require regular care to ensure his coat does not become matted or tangled.
From six months of age, I will need to be brushed at least twice a week, making sure you brush under armpits, ears and all feathering (long hair).
Pay particular attention to my ears, and the pads of my feet which are susceptible to grass seeds.
If you can spend about ten minutes a day or maybe a 1/2 hour a week brushing and combing me, then you should not have any problem with matts or knots.
You will need to use a comb as well as a brush. This is because the brush will not get down to the skin depth and matts will form there even though the surface of the coat will look OK. Always brush and comb in the direction that the coat naturally lies.
I will need a good haircut at least three times a year, however do not be tempted to shave off my coat, as it will grow back coarse and be more difficult to care for.
Regular bathing will ensure your puppy's coat stays in top condition.
